David Bowie's 1971 masterpiece Hunky Dory, remastered: "Changes," "Life on Mars?," "Oh! You Pretty Things" and "Queen Bitch."
On order
Hunky Dory is where David Bowie found his voice as a songwriter, with "Changes" and "Life on Mars?" leading the way. It's regularly named one of the greatest albums of all time.
After the heavy guitar rock of The Man Who Sold the World, David Bowie sat down at the piano and wrote his most melodic, intimate and adventurous set of songs yet. Recorded at Trident Studios with Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder and Mick Woodmansey (soon to become the Spiders from Mars) and a young Rick Wakeman on piano, Hunky Dory is warm, witty and endlessly curious.
"Changes" is his manifesto for reinvention, "Life on Mars?" is one of the most gloriously over-the-top ballads ever written, "Oh! You Pretty Things" and "Kooks" are playful, "Andy Warhol" and "Queen Bitch" tip their hats to his New York heroes, and "Quicksand" and "The Bewlay Brothers" go deep. Months later he became Ziggy Stardust, but this is where the magic started.
