Daft Punk's first live album, Alive 1997, a 45-minute set from Birmingham's Que Club, on 180g vinyl with a sheet of Daft Punk stickers.
This Daft Life pressing is on 180g vinyl, pressed in the Netherlands and packed with the sticker sheet. NME called it an immaculately executed product, and Q called it breathless electronic excitement.
Before the pyramid and the stadiums, Daft Punk were two Parisians with a table full of machines, touring their debut, Homework. On 8 November 1997 the Daftendirektour stopped at the Que Club in Birmingham, and Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo rated that night as one of their favourite live sets. It first surfaced online through the Daft Club service tied to Discovery, then landed on CD and vinyl in 2001.
It plays as one continuous piece across two sides, with no tracklist on the sleeve. Familiar Homework tracks collide, loop and morph into versions AllMusic's John Bush called radically different from the originals, and keen ears will catch an early sketch of what became Short Circuit on Discovery. The crowd is part of the mix too; Hot Press felt the audience noise sounded like Homework's own sound effects. Åbäke did the layout and Serge Paulet the photography.
Sputnikmusic went as far as preferring its single, unbroken flow to Alive 2007. It came back on vinyl in 2022 for Homework's 25th anniversary, stickers and all, which makes it the coolest thing in the shop you're allowed to put on a laptop.
