Cypress Hill's 1995 third album III: Temples of Boom as a 30th anniversary 2LP set, with three bonus remixes including the Fugees Mix of "Boom Biddy Bye Bye."
This 30th anniversary 2LP set adds the Club Remix of "Throw Your Set in the Air," the Harpsichord Mix of "Illusions" and the Fugees Mix of "Boom Biddy Bye Bye." The album went platinum in the US, with a million copies sold.
After two loud, party-starting albums, Cypress Hill turned the lights down. DJ Muggs steered the group toward darker, slower and spookier beats, reflecting the pressures of sudden fame, and percussionist Eric Bobo joined B-Real and Sen Dog as a full member for the first time.
Muggs produced and arranged almost everything, and Q heard Indian sitar and sloping, almost psychedelic bass grooves creating a vaguely threatening ambient hardcore. RZA produced "Killa Hill N***s," which also brings in U-God for a Wu-Tang crossover, while "Illusions" and "Throw Your Set in the Air" became the album's signature tracks and "No Rest for the Wicked" gave B-Real plenty to get off his chest. Melody Maker called it Bloody Essential and praised its expansive claustrophobia.
Rolling Stone heard a new and improved Cypress Hill sound marking Muggs' progress, an album of many musical hues, and NME heard the paranoia of 1995 America in it, delivered with spookily apt timing. It came out on October 31, 1995, which for an album this eerie was simply good scheduling.
