August and Everything After sold more than seven million copies in the US and is one of the great debut albums of the '90s. "Mr. Jones" made Counting Crows stars overnight.
Adam Duritz and his San Francisco band recorded their debut with T Bone Burnett, and it's a warm, rootsy, emotionally open record that mixes Van Morrison soul, Band-style Americana and Duritz's poetic, deeply personal storytelling.
"Mr. Jones" is a jangling classic, "Round Here" is spellbinding, "Rain King" and "Omaha" glow, "Anna Begins" is heartfelt, and "A Murder of One" closes with a soaring singalong. Spread over two LPs for better sound.
