Car Seat Headrest: Twin Fantasy - Face to Face (2LP) [MATADOR]

Why you'll love it

Will Toledo recorded Twin Fantasy on his laptop as a teenager in 2011, and it became an indie cult classic. In 2018 he remade the whole thing with the full band, and the result is huge, raw and heartbreaking.

About the album

Twin Fantasy started life as a lo-fi Bandcamp album that Will Toledo made in his bedroom as a teenager, a sprawling, funny and painfully honest record about a long-distance relationship, depression and being young. It found a devoted following online, and Toledo never stopped thinking he could make it sound the way he'd heard it in his head.

So in 2018, with the full Car Seat Headrest band behind him, he did. Twin Fantasy (Face to Face) keeps the songs and the heart of the original but blows them up into widescreen indie rock: "Beach Life-in-Death" and "Famous Prophets (Stars)" run well past ten minutes, "Bodys" is a jittery dance-floor anthem, and "Sober to Death" is a gorgeous sing-along. It's one of the great indie rock records of its decade.
