Cake's 1996 breakthrough Fashion Nugget, remastered on 180-gram vinyl: "The Distance," "I Will Survive," "Frank Sinatra" and "Italian Leather Sofa."
Fashion Nugget went platinum, and "The Distance" became one of the most memorable alternative rock hits of the 90s.
Sacramento's Cake have a sound all their own: John McCrea's deadpan, half-spoken vocals, Vince DiFiore's mariachi-style trumpet, chunky guitar and bass grooves, and lyrics full of sly wit. Fashion Nugget is where it all came together.
"The Distance" is a racing, irresistible classic, their deadpan take on Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" is a hoot, "Frank Sinatra" and "Italian Leather Sofa" are wonderfully cool, and "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" is pure charm.
