About the album

Dev Hynes described Negro Swan as an exploration of Black depression and the everyday anxieties of queer people of colour, but also, crucially, a record about hope and the lights we turn on for each other. It plays like a late-night radio show, with spoken interludes from Janet Mock drifting between songs.

The sound is soft and soulful, built on hushed vocals, slinky bass lines, saxophone and gospel-tinged harmonies. "Charcoal Baby" and "Jewelry" are the singles, "Saint" and "Chewing Gum" (with A$AP Rocky) groove, and "Hope" features Puff Daddy and Tei Shi. It's a gorgeous, healing record that landed on year-end lists everywhere.
