![Billie Holiday: Great Women of Song [VERVE]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/60555117/1652x1652x2/new-vinyl-billie-holiday-great-women-of-song-verve.jpg)
Billie Holiday's Great Women of Song collection from Verve, a lovely introduction to the voice of Lady Day.
Billie Holiday is one of the greatest singers who ever lived, and her phrasing changed jazz and pop singing forever. This Verve collection gathers highlights from her later years with the label.
Nicknamed "Lady Day" by her friend and musical partner Lester Young, Billie Holiday sang with a phrasing all her own, bending melodies like a horn player and putting more feeling into a single line than most singers manage in a career.
This collection from Verve's Great Women of Song series focuses on her recordings for Norman Granz in the '50s, when her voice had deepened into something even more expressive, with all-star jazz accompanists behind her. A beautiful way to start a Billie Holiday collection.
