Beck's Grammy-winning 1996 masterpiece Odelay, made with the Dust Brothers: "Where It's At," "Devils Haircut," "The New Pollution" and "Jack-Ass."
Odelay won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance and topped countless year-end lists, a cut-and-paste collage of hip-hop, rock, funk, folk and noise that still sounds fresh.
Working with the Dust Brothers, who'd crafted the Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique, Beck built Odelay from loops, samples, breakbeats, slide guitar and anything else that sounded good, with his playful, surreal lyrics tying it all together.
"Where It's At" is a funky, laid-back groove, "Devils Haircut" crunches with attitude, "The New Pollution" swings with 60s cool, "Jack-Ass" is gentle and lovely, and "Novacane" and "Sissyneck" are wildly fun.
