About the album

Basement came together in Ipswich in 2010, put out a demo, and were signed to Run for Cover almost before the ink was dry. Founder Jeff Casazza heard something in the band, and a year of hard UK and European touring later they went to Stuck on a Name Studios in Nottingham to make this record with Ian Boult, with Jesse Cannon handling the mix.

It opens on a sample from An Affair to Remember before "Fading" kicks the door in. "Plan to Be Surprised" and "Every Single Word" were reworked from the band's earlier Two Songs download, "Grayscale" was the first taste fans got, and "Earl Grey" and "Crickets Throw Their Voice" show Andrew Fisher's knack for turning personal stuff into shout-along choruses. It's half an hour, all killer, and it hits hard.

Reviewers said it didn't sound like a debut at all, more like the work of a band that had been at it for years. A track named after a cup of tea is the most English thing on any emo record we stock, and we stock a fair few.
