Toronto's BadBadNotGood pick the after-hours music for the Late Night Tales series, as a 180g 2LP set with Stereolab, Erasmo Carlos and Thundercat.
This 180g 2LP set holds BadBadNotGood's 2017 Late Night Tales selection, including their own exclusive cover of Andy Shauf's "To You." Critics loved it, with a Metacritic score of 85.
Late Night Tales hands a band the keys to its record collection and asks them to soundtrack the small hours. Our hometown jazz-and-hip-hop quartet BadBadNotGood took the job in 2017 and called the result a soundtrack for reflection and meditation.
The selections roam widely: Stereolab's dreamy pop, Brazilian great Erasmo Carlos, the home-recorded teenage soul of Donnie and Joe Emerson, and the cosmic bass of Thundercat. The band also added a cover of their own, a take on "To You" by Saskatchewan songwriter Andy Shauf, which keeps things nicely Canadian.
Previous curators include Air and Four Tet, so BBNG are in fine company. It's the closest thing we have to hiring them to DJ your living room, and much cheaper on the snacks.
