2LP of Audioslave's 2002 debut, Chris Cornell with Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk: "Like a Stone," "Cochise" and "Show Me How to Live."
Audioslave put Chris Cornell's huge voice in front of the Rage Against the Machine rhythm machine. The debut went triple platinum in the US, and "Like a Stone" and "Cochise" are rock radio staples.
When Zack de la Rocha left Rage Against the Machine, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk went looking for a new singer, and producer Rick Rubin suggested Soundgarden's Chris Cornell. It was a supergroup that actually worked: Morello's riffs and wild sound effects, that locked-in rhythm section and Cornell's soaring, soulful wail.
"Cochise" explodes out of the speakers, "Like a Stone" is one of Cornell's most moving vocals and earned a Grammy nomination, and "Show Me How to Live," "I Am the Highway" and "What You Are" keep the quality high all the way through. A modern hard-rock classic, spread across two LPs here.
