About the album

Architects flew to Gothenburg in October 2015 and spent seven intense weeks at Studio Fredman, the same room where they had made Lost Forever // Lost Together. They went in more confident than ever, with Adam Christianson now a full-time guitarist alongside founding guitarist and chief songwriter Tom Searle, and producers Henrik Udd and Fredrik Nordström behind the desk.

The result is heavy, dark and huge. Searle's guitar and programming, plus his own arrangements for strings and brass, wrap Sam Carter's roar in something close to cinematic. "Nihilist" opens at full force, "Gone with the Wind" is a slow, crushing standout, "A Match Made in Heaven" and "Phantom Fear" hit like freight, and "Memento Mori" closes on a vast, mournful sweep. Blabbermouth called it the heaviest and darkest work the band had ever put their name to.

It was the last album Searle made before his death in August 2016, and the band have carried his songs with them ever since. The inverted artwork on this pressing makes the cover look hung the wrong way round on purpose, which is more than we can say for some of the posters in our back room.
