Alicia Keys's 2001 debut as a 25th anniversary 2LP set on orange marble vinyl, with "Fallin'," "A Woman's Worth" and two bonus tracks.
This 25th anniversary 2LP set on orange marble vinyl adds "Foolish Heart" and "Crazy (Mi Corazón)" in a full-colour gatefold. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, won five Grammys and has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide.
Alicia Keys started writing these songs at 14, and by the time the rest of us heard them she had already done the hard part. A classically trained pianist, she wrote, arranged and produced most of the album herself, often with Kerry "Krucial" Brothers, recording much of it in her bedroom in a Harlem apartment before Clive Davis brought her to J Records.
The sound fuses classical piano with R&B, soul and jazz, plus touches of hip-hop, blues and gospel. "Piano & I" sets the scene, "Fallin'" went to No. 1 on the Hot 100 and around the world, and "A Woman's Worth" became a top 10 hit. Deeper in, "Girlfriend," "Butterflyz" and "Troubles" show the range, and her cover of Prince's "How Come You Don't Call Me" is a slow-burning showstopper.
Her five Grammys in one night tied Lauryn Hill's record for a woman. Despite the title, just two of the tracks are actually in A minor, which we suspect is the most successful piece of misdirection in R&B.
