30th anniversary 2LP of Alice in Chains' 1995 self-titled album, the "Dog" record, on highlighter yellow vinyl: "Grind," "Heaven Beside You" and "Again."
Alice in Chains' third album went straight to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and was the band's last studio album with Layne Staley. This 30th anniversary edition spreads it over two highlighter yellow LPs.
By 1995 Alice in Chains were one of the biggest bands to come out of Seattle and also one of the most troubled. Touring had stopped, rumours were flying, and nobody was quite sure the band would make another record. Then they went into Bad Animals Studio with producer Toby Wright and came out with the darkest, heaviest and strangest album of their career.
Known to fans as the "Dog" album (or "Tripod," after the three-legged dog on the cover), it's a slow, sludgy, unsettling record built on Jerry Cantrell's grinding riffs and those eerie Staley/Cantrell harmonies. "Grind," "Heaven Beside You" and "Again" were all hits, and deep cuts like "Frogs" and "Over Now" are among the most haunting things the band ever recorded. It debuted at No. 1 in the US, and it turned out to be the final Alice in Chains studio album with Layne Staley.
