About the album

Recorded on April 10, 1996 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, MTV Unplugged was Alice In Chains' first concert in two years, and one of the very last with singer Layne Staley. Heart guitarist Scott Olson joined the band for the night, making it their only performance as a five-piece, and Jerry Cantrell finished a brand-new song, "Killer Is Me," just hours before the taping.

Stripped back to acoustic guitars, the band's heaviest material somehow lands even harder: "Nutshell" is spine-tingling, "Down in a Hole" and "Rooster" are devastating, and the eerie harmonies between Staley and Cantrell on "Would?" and "Got Me Wrong" are among the most haunting sounds of the whole grunge era. It's a landmark, and this anniversary pressing finally gives it the full 2LP treatment it deserves.
