AFI's 1999 Halloween EP on 10-inch vinyl at 45 RPM: "Fall Children," "The Boy Who Destroyed The World," "Totalimmortal" and their cover of the Misfits' "Halloween."
This Nitro 10-inch spins at 45 RPM and comes with a lyric sheet. It holds "Totalimmortal," later covered by The Offspring for Me, Myself & Irene, and "The Boy Who Destroyed The World" from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3.
Four songs, one pumpkin-headed scarecrow and a hissing black cat. AFI put this EP out on Nitro in October 1999, timed for the season, with Alan Forbes' horror-punk cover art and the word Boo! tucked away on the inside spine for anyone paying close attention. It caught the Northern California band just as their sound was getting darker and grander.
Davey Havok, Jade Puget, Hunter Burgan and Adam Carson produced it themselves at The Art of Ears. "Fall Children" opens with all the gothic drama of the Black Sails era, "The Boy Who Destroyed The World" is a sprinting singalong, and "Totalimmortal" got a black-and-white video and a second life when The Offspring covered it. The cover of the Misfits' "Halloween" is a loving salute to the band that taught them how to dress. It all lasts about a quarter of an hour, which leaves plenty of time to flip it and start again.
The band toured it with Sick of It All and then supported Danzig, which is a fairly tidy way to spend autumn. Spin it every October, or keep it out year-round; the scarecrow doesn't mind.
