About the album

Riverside, California's Suicide Silence didn't so much ease into deathcore as kick the door off its hinges. They cut The Cleansing in 2007 at King Size Soundlabs in Los Angeles with engineer John Travis, tracking it live as a band rather than piece by piece, and Danish producer Tue Madsen mixed it into something properly ferocious.

"Unanswered" and "Bludgeoned to Death" were the first songs out of the gate, and "The Price of Beauty" and "No Pity for a Coward" followed as videos. The late Mitch Lucker layers low growls over high shrieks so it sounds like two singers at once, and the breakdowns on "Hands of a Killer" and "Girl of Glass" still flatten a room. Nate Johnson guests on "Destruction of a Statue," and Dave McKean, the artist behind Sandman's covers, did the sleeve.

Revolver and Alternative Press both list it among the essential deathcore albums, and Loudwire calls it the band's best. One music writer said it sounds like getting beaten up whilst soaking in bleach, which we've decided to take as a compliment on the band's behalf.
