Sufjan Stevens: The Age of Adz 2LP Vinyl

Why you'll love it

The Age of Adz was Sufjan's first full song-based album in five years after Illinois, and a dazzling, daring leap into electronics, orchestration and glitchy maximalism.

About the album

Inspired by the vivid, apocalyptic artwork of outsider artist Royal Robertson, whose paintings appear on the cover, Stevens built The Age of Adz from synths, drum machines, choirs, horns and strings, a radical departure from the folk of Seven Swans and Michigan.

"Futile Devices" is a gentle, acoustic opening, "Too Much" and "I Walked" are bright, bubbling electronic pop, "Vesuvius" is stunning, and the multi-part "Impossible Soul" is a sprawling, joyous adventure.
