About the album

Pocket Full of Kryptonite was a slow burn. It came out in August 1991 to a devoted New York following, and a year later radio stations picked up "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" and the rest of the country caught on. The album's title comes from a line in the opener, "Jimmy Olsen's Blues."

Chris Barron sings, Eric Schenkman plays guitar (and takes the lead vocal on "Off My Line"), Mark White plays bass and Aaron Comess drums. Blues Traveler's John Popper blows harmonica on "More Than She Knows" and "Off My Line" and sings backup on "Two Princes," the jaunty hit that followed "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" up the charts. Frankie LaRocka and Peter Denenberg produced with the band at the Power Station in New York. Comess adds organ, Schenkman plays piano on "Forty Or Fifty," and John Bush chips in on tambourine and congas.

"How Could You Want Him (When You Know You Could Have Me?)" and "Refrigerator Car" show off the jam-band roots. Thirty-odd years on, "Two Princes" still gets grown adults singing in our aisles, and we've long since stopped asking them to keep it down.
