Shania Twain's 1997 blockbuster as a 2LP set in a gatefold jacket, with "You're Still The One," "That Don't Impress Me Much" and "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!"
This 2LP set gives all 16 songs room to breathe across four sides, in a gatefold jacket with a download card. Come On Over has sold over 40 million copies, making it the best-selling studio album by a woman and the best-selling country album ever.
The girl from Timmins already had a smash with The Woman in Me, so the plan for the follow-up was simple: write more like you talk. Shania Twain and producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange, then her husband, were both so busy they often wrote apart and stitched their ideas together later, and she aimed for a conversational record full of romance, humour and a healthy dose of female empowerment.
Lange mixed fiddles, acoustic guitars and pedal steel with rock riffs and gleaming pop production, and the hits kept coming: 12 singles in all. "You're Still The One" and "From This Moment On" became wedding staples, "That Don't Impress Me Much" put a few egos in their place, and "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" kicks the whole thing off like a night out. "Honey, I'm Home" and "Don't Be Stupid (You Know I Love You)" joined the parade of singles too.
It topped the charts in Canada, the UK and Australia, earned Grammy nominations for Album of the Year and Best Country Album, and changed what a country record could look and sound like. Somewhere right now, someone is singing the opening line into a hairbrush, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
