About the album

Schoolboy Q started work on Blank Face LP a few months after Oxymoron, then seriously thought about stepping away from rap to spend more time with his family. Instead he built a studio at home, got back to it in the summer of 2015, and finished in April 2016 with a darker and more cinematic record than anything he'd made before.

TDE's in-house team Digi+Phonics did much of the production, with Swizz Beatz, Metro Boomin, Southside, The Alchemist, DJ Dahi, Nez & Rio and Tyler, the Creator all adding beats. "That Part" with Kanye West became a double-platinum single, "Groovy Tony / Eddie Kane" is a menacing, bass-heavy highlight, "Overtime" with Miguel and Justine Skye goes smooth, and Jadakiss, E-40, Tha Dogg Pound and Anderson .Paak all drop by.

A trilogy of short films and the Groovy Tony Pit Stops tour followed, and Q took the album around the world with Joey Badass. Rolling Stone later placed it among the 200 greatest hip hop albums of all time. It's a long, rewarding listen, so you may want to clear the afternoon and tell the neighbours in advance.
