Pusha T's 2018 album Daytona, an import pressing of the lean, Kanye West-produced set with "If You Know You Know," "The Games We Play" and "Infrared."
This import pressing comes with a printed insert. Daytona debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album, and topped year-end hip hop lists at Billboard, Paste and Complex.
For years it was going to be called King Push. Then Pusha T changed the title to Daytona, explaining that it stood for the luxury of time, the kind that comes with real confidence in your skill set. He and Kanye West threw out the early material and started again in Jackson, Wyoming, and Daytona became the first of the five seven-track albums West produced there in the summer of 2018.
West produced every beat, with help from Mike Dean, Andrew Dawson and Pi'erre Bourne, and the sound is all chopped soul and rock samples, ten of them across seven songs, more than any other Wyoming record. "If You Know You Know" opens with a slow-burning drum break, "The Games We Play" struts, Rick Ross drops in on "Hard Piano," 070 Shake haunts "Santeria," and West himself raps on "What Would Meek Do?" Pusha's delivery is crisp and precise throughout.
The A.V. Club called it an absolute masterpiece of minimalism, and Pitchfork named it his best solo work. He named the album after the luxury of time and then said everything in 21 minutes, which is what we in the trade call good time management.
