About the album

Every touring band has a private phrase for the less glamorous stops on the map, and PUP liked theirs enough to name a record after it. This Place Sucks Ass gathers songs mostly from the Morbid Stuff sessions, and the Toronto four-piece put it out through their own Little Dipper label with Rise Records. It arrived in October 2020, about a year and a half after Morbid Stuff, as a short, sharp bridge to whatever came next.

Stefan Babcock, Steve Sladkowski, Nestor Chumak and Zack Mykula tear through it at full tilt. "Rot" kicks the door in, "Anaphylaxis" and "Nothing Changes" are all gang vocals and wiry guitar, and "A.M. 180" turns a Grandaddy favourite into a shout-along. "Floodgates" and "Edmonton" round things off with the same breakneck bite. David Schiffman produced and mixed it, and Harry Hess handled the mastering.

Paste praised how it squeezed the band's infectious feel-bad energy into such a short running time. We'd like to state, for the record, that this place, the shop, does not.
