Why you'll love it

This Epic Associated LP puts the band's first album on vinyl in its original 11-song running order, produced by Arnold Lanni. Naveed went 4x platinum in Canada and launched five singles, including "Starseed" and "The Birdman."

About the album

Naveed is a Persian name meaning bearer of good news, which turned out to be a fair description of what happened next. Our Lady Peace signed with Sony in 1993 on a promise to make a record that sounded like their demos, rehearsed all spring and summer in a rented room in Mississauga, and went into Arnold Lanni's Arnyard Studios that September to cut the album.

Raine Maida wanted a straight rock record, no piano or synths, and the band got there by living together for three months and working every arrangement until it fit. "Starseed" became the big crossover single, "The Birdman" grew out of their earliest demos, the title track soars, and Mike Turner's guitars and Maida's high, cracked wail are all over "Hope" and "Julia." It's also the band's one album with bassist Chris Eacrett.

Turner later said there's nothing on the record the band didn't want there. The sessions were briefly held up while 18-year-old drummer Jeremy Taggart attended his high school graduation, which is one scheduling conflict most producers never have to plan for.
