About the album

Few groups changed hip hop as quickly as N.W.A. In a handful of years Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella put Compton on the map, and this collection gathers the highlights from the Straight Outta Compton album, the 100 Miles and Runnin' EP and their second and final studio album, with Eazy-E as executive producer.

The extended mix of "Straight Outta Compton" and "Gangsta Gangsta" carry the raw early power, while remixes of "Express Yourself," built on Charles Wright's funk classic, and "Alwayz into Somethin'" show Dre's production getting deeper and smoother. Live recordings and short inserts stitch it all together like a radio show, and Snoop Dogg turns up on the closing stretch.

When the film Straight Outta Compton arrived in 2015, this collection climbed back up the charts, reaching No. 9 in Australia. Thirty-odd years ago this was the record parents hid; now it's the one they come in to buy.
