About the album

In the summer of 2002 it was simply impossible to get away from Nelly. The St. Louis rapper had already sold millions with Country Grammar, and Nellyville took that sing-song, Midwestern bounce and turned it into a pop-culture event.

The production team ran deep: Jay E, Waiel Yaghnam, the Neptunes, Just Blaze, Trackboyz and Ryan Bowser. The Neptunes' "Hot in Herre" spent seven weeks at No. 1 and has never really left a dance floor, while "Dilemma" with Destiny's Child's Kelly Rowland held the top spot for ten weeks and became one of the defining R&B duets of the decade. "Air Force Ones" turned a pair of sneakers into an anthem with his St. Lunatics crew, "Pimp Juice" and "Work It" kept the party moving, and "Roc the Mic (Remix)" brought in more friends. It also reached No. 2 in the UK, Australia, Canada, Germany and New Zealand.

By 2011 it had sold nearly six and a half million copies in the US, the 14th best-selling rap album of all time by that count. Any sneaker shop worth its laces still owes him a thank-you card.
