Why you'll love it

Harvest was the best-selling album of 1972 in the US, and "Heart of Gold" gave the Toronto-born songwriter his only US number one single.

  • Reprise pressing

About the album

Neil Young recorded most of Harvest in Nashville with a band of local session players he named the Stray Gators, adding the London Symphony Orchestra on two songs and harmonies from David Crosby, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt.

"Heart of Gold" and "Old Man" are timeless, "Out on the Weekend" and the title track are warm, easygoing country rock, and "Are You Ready for the Country?" and "Alabama" bring the electric bite. One of the great records of the 70s.
