About the album

New Jersey has given the world plenty, and in February 1993 it gave hip hop one of its great hand-waving anthems. Treach, Vin Rock and DJ Kay Gee came out of East Orange, New Jersey, mentored by Queen Latifah, and by their third album they had the confidence to make a record that was as much a party as a statement of hometown pride.

Kay Gee and the group produced most of it themselves, with S.I.D. Reynolds adding production, at Unique Recording, Soundtrack Studios and Electric Lady in New York. "Hip Hop Hooray" got a Spike Lee video with cameos from Queen Latifah, Eazy-E and Run-D.M.C. "It's On" and "Written on Ya Kitten" kept the singles coming, while Heavy D, Queen Latifah and Freddie Foxxx drop in, and "Sleepin' On Jersey" makes the case for the Garden State. The new fourth side brings The Beatnuts' remix of "It's On" and two mixes of "Written on Ya Kitten."

AllMusic called it the group's second straight triumph, and Canada gave it a gold record too. Thirty years on, it still turns any wedding into a block party, and we've given up pretending we don't know the words.
