Mort Garson's 1976 cult classic Mother Earth's Plantasia, "warm earth music for plants and the people who love them," made on the Moog synthesizer.
Originally given away with houseplants and Simmons mattresses, Plantasia became a beloved cult classic and an internet sensation. Sacred Bones' 2019 reissue brought it to a whole new generation.
Canadian-born composer Mort Garson was a pioneer of the Moog synthesizer, and in 1976 he made one of the most charming albums ever: a set of gentle, sunny electronic tunes composed specifically for houseplants to listen to. It was originally only available to people who bought a plant at a Los Angeles shop called Mother Earth or a mattress from Sears.
"Plantasia," "Symphony for a Spider Plant," "Concerto for Philodendron & Pothos" and "Swingin' Spathiphyllums" are bubbly, wobbly and impossibly sweet. Your ferns will thank you.
