Mobb Deep's 1995 Queensbridge masterpiece The Infamous: "Shook Ones, Pt. II," "Survival of the Fittest," "Eye for a Eye" with Nas and Raekwon, and "Temperature's Rising."

Why you'll love it

The Infamous is one of the darkest, most vivid street-rap albums ever made. Havoc's eerie beats and Prodigy's cold-blooded verses on "Shook Ones, Pt. II" and "Survival of the Fittest" defined '90s New York hip hop.

About the album

Havoc and Prodigy were barely out of their teens, two kids from the Queensbridge Houses, when they made The Infamous, and it sounds like nothing else from the era: cold, sparse, piano-haunted beats and tight, vivid rhymes about survival, paranoia and life on the block. Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest helped out on production and mixing.

"Shook Ones, Pt. II" has one of the most famous beats in hip hop history, "Survival of the Fittest" is just as chilling, "Eye for a Eye (Your Beef Is Mines)" brings in Nas and Raekwon, and "Right Back at You" adds Ghostface Killah. The Infamous went platinum and still sits near the top of every list of the greatest East Coast rap albums.
