About the album

Ringgo Ancheta grew up surrounded by music: his uncle's Navy band rehearsing, his sisters' talent shows, breakdancing events around Philadelphia and gospel at church. His older brother handed him music software at 13, and he never really put it down, moving to Los Angeles in 2011 and becoming a regular at Low End Theory. Born in San Diego to a Filipino family and raised in New Jersey, he had made his name on Stones Throw with Yawn Zen and Body Wash.

Rare Pleasure is his warmest record, inspired by R&B, soundtrack music, psychedelia and jazz, and he wrote and arranged it himself. Thirteen tracks run about 40 minutes, threaded together by four instalments of the title piece and two parts of "Divine Hand." "Hope You're Doin' Better" and "Slowdance" are soft, swaying soul, "Colours Of The Sunset" glows, and "Abundance" and "Masque" drift into jazzier corners.

He has also produced for Tyler, the Creator and SiR, and it shows in how easy this sounds. His name is pronounced mind design, by the way; we said it wrong at the counter for years and nobody had the heart to tell us.
