Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges' 1972 Brazilian masterpiece Clube da Esquina on 2LP, a dreamy blend of bossa nova, jazz, folk and Beatles-style pop from Minas Gerais.
On order
Clube da Esquina is regularly named the greatest Brazilian album of all time, the defining statement of the Minas Gerais collective that shares its name.
In the late 1960s a circle of young musicians in Belo Horizonte, led by Milton Nascimento and the teenage Lô Borges, gathered on a street corner (the "esquina" of the title) to swap songs. The double album they made together in 1972 mixes bossa nova, jazz, progressive rock, Brazilian folk and classical touches, with a strong dose of Beatles-inspired melody.
Milton's soaring voice and Lô's bright, catchy songwriting play off each other beautifully across the whole set, from "Tudo Que Você Podia Ser" and "O Trem Azul" to "Cais" and "Nada Será Como Antes." A record that rewards a lifetime of listening.
