About the album

Most dads get dragged to their kids' gigs. Mike D got dragged on stage: his first performance in years was a surprise appearance at a show by Very Nice Person, the band led by his sons Skyler and Davis Diamond. One thing led to another, and the founding Beastie Boy ended up with a new band, 5D, and his first solo album.

Alongside Skyler and Davis, 5D is filled out by Eddie and Milo Ruscha (another father-and-son pair, no relation) and Will Graefe. "Switch Up" is a punchy, breakbeat-driven opener, "What We Got" and "True Colors" bounce with post-punk energy, "Crypto" grooves, and the closing title track sends things off warmly.

Critics were kind, with Any Decent Music landing on 7.1 out of ten. Two father-and-son pairs in one five-piece is a ratio most family businesses would envy.
