About the album

Three albums in, Madonna decided the next move was to get personal. Like a Prayer goes where she hadn't dared before: her Catholic upbringing, the loss of her mother and her relationship with her father, set to some of the most ambitious pop she'd made.

She kept her True Blue collaborators Patrick Leonard and Stephen Bray close, and Prince co-wrote and co-produced "Love Song" with her. "Express Yourself" and "Cherish" both hit No. 2, "Keep It Together" made the top ten, and "Oh Father" and "Promise to Try" show the more tender side. The 1990 Blond Ambition World Tour carried it around the globe, through Asia, North America and Europe. It's pop, but with rock and dance-pop running through it, and it hangs together beautifully as a whole album.

Critics marked it as the moment she was taken seriously as an artist, and it sits on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. On silver vinyl it rather looks like it's been polished for a special occasion, which, to be fair, it has.
