Leonard Cohen's 1977 album Death of a Ladies' Man, his lush, Wall of Sound collaboration with producer Phil Spector: "Memories" and "True Love Leaves No Traces."
Death of a Ladies' Man is the most unusual album of Leonard Cohen's career, a fascinating collision of his poetic songwriting with Phil Spector's grand, orchestral production.
Montreal's Leonard Cohen co-wrote these songs with Phil Spector, who surrounded Cohen's deep, intimate voice with layers of horns, strings, backing singers and echo. Bob Seger and Allen Ginsberg even turn up on backing vocals.
"Memories" is a swaggering, doo-wop-flavoured gem, "True Love Leaves No Traces" is a gorgeous duet with Ronee Blakley, "Iodine" and "Paper Thin Hotel" are lush and romantic, and the epic title track closes the album in style.
