Muchas Gracias, the Kyuss collection of rarities, B-sides and live cuts, as a numbered 2LP set on blue vinyl, with "Demon Cleaner," "Hurricane" and "Thumb."
Run Out Groove pressed this 2LP set on blue vinyl in a limited, numbered run in the Netherlands. Kyuss are counted among the pioneers of stoner rock, and the band's alumni went on to Queens of the Stone Age, Fu Manchu and Them Crooked Vultures.
There were no clubs in Palm Desert, California, so Kyuss played the desert itself: "generator parties" out among the rocks, gas-powered amps, a few dozen people and a lot of sand. Out of that came John Garcia's voice, Josh Homme's downtuned guitar played through bass amps, and a sound that a whole genre would be built on. Chris Goss produced Blues for the Red Sun and Welcome to Sky Valley, and by 1993 they were opening for Metallica in Australia.
Elektra gathered Muchas Gracias in 2000 after the band split. Side A opens with "Un Sandpiper" and "Shine," "Demon Cleaner" (a UK top 100 single) and "Hurricane" fill out Side B, and the third side brings "Flip the Phase," "Fatso Forgotso" and "El Rodeo." Side D is live, with "Gardenia," "Thumb," "Conan Troutman" and "Freedom Run" showing why they built their name on stage first.
Homme, Brant Bjork, Nick Oliveri and Garcia have since filled half the rock section between them. We file this one under Kyuss, though in fairness it could also go under most of the shop.
