Why you'll love it

Justice's debut took French house, pumped it full of distorted synths, disco strings and metal swagger, and soundtracked a whole generation of dance floors. "D.A.N.C.E." earned a Grammy nomination.

About the album

Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay were two young Parisians who got into remixing almost by accident, and their 2003 remix of Simian's "Never Be Alone" (later "We Are Your Friends") made them stars of Ed Banger Records. Their debut album, known simply by its giant glowing cross, took that sound and blew it up to stadium size.

"Genesis" opens like the start of a horror film, "D.A.N.C.E." (sung by a children's choir) is pure, joyful disco-pop, and "Phantom," "Stress" and "Waters of Nazareth" are thunderous, distorted club monsters. It's loud, cheeky and thrilling, and it still sounds massive at volume.
