Rock out with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' hottest tracks on this Greatest Hits album. It celebrates the career of the queen of rock 'n' roll, showcasing the range of her skillful guitar playing, charismatic personality and bold musical style on hits like "Bad Reputation," "I Hate Myself for Loving You" and "I Love Rock N' Roll."
The story starts in 1979, when Jett met songwriter and producer Kenny Laguna. The pair put out her solo debut themselves on their own Blackheart Records, and Jett placed an ad in the LA Weekly looking for three good men; John Doe of X sat in on bass at the auditions, and a 15-year-old Gary Ryan got the bass job. From there came a run of hits and covers built on that big, joyful guitar crunch, with "Everyday People" and "Love Is All Around" showing how well her band could make a borrowed song their own.
Laguna, who produced these sides, is still in the band alongside Jett more than four decades on. Few labels are run by people who so plainly enjoy their own catalogue, and frankly, we relate.
