About the album

Fresh from signing what was then the biggest recording contract in history, Janet Jackson could have played it safe. Instead, working again with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, she made her most introspective and adventurous album: a concept record about the need to feel special, wrapped in velvety R&B, trip hop, house and folk.

"Got 'til It's Gone" floats over a Joni Mitchell sample with a Q-Tip verse, "Together Again" is a joyful house anthem, "I Get Lonely" is gorgeous slow-burning R&B, and "Go Deep" and "Every Time" show off her range. It's frank about love, sexuality and self-worth, and it made her an icon to a whole new generation.
