About the album

By late 1993 the West Coast had gone smooth, with deep bass, whining synths and laid-back grooves everywhere, and Ice Cube decided to ride the wave his own way. Lethal Injection trades some of the furious density of his early solo records for funk, swagger and a lot of rolling P-Funk bounce.

QDIII, Sir Jinx, Madness 4 Real and Laylaw handle the beats. "Really Doe" and "You Know How We Do It" were the singles, the latter a breezy cruise down the boulevard that still sounds like a sunny afternoon. "Bop Gun (One Nation)" rebuilds Funkadelic's "One Nation Under a Groove" with George Clinton along for the ride and became an MTV staple, and "Down for Whatever" later picked up a second life in the film Office Space.

"Bop Gun" is the longest groove on the record, and in all our years nobody in the shop has ever asked us to lift the needle early.
