About the album

Gwar's backstory is that they are intergalactic barbarians banished to Earth, and Scumdogs of the Universe is the concept album that tells it. "Death Pod" explains how they arrived, and the rest of the record covers what they got up to once they landed, delivered with a sharper, heavier production than their scrappy debut.

"Sick of You" is the concert finale of choice, "Maggots" was the lead single for this anniversary edition, "Vlad the Impaler" takes a detour into history and "Horror of Yig" into Lovecraft. It's also the first Gwar album with more than two lead voices: Sleazy P. Martini fronts the game-show romp "Slaughterama" and Beefcake the Mighty steps up on "Cool Place to Park." Producer Ronan Chris Murphy remixed and remastered it for the 30th anniversary.

The band and their fans both regard it as the masterpiece, and they play more songs from it than from any other album. Front-row concertgoers are advised to wear something washable; record buyers, happily, are not.
