Freddie Gibbs & Madlib: Piñata (2LP) [MADLIB INVAZION]

Why you'll love it

Piñata is one of the great rapper-producer team-ups of the century, with Gibbs' razor-sharp storytelling over Madlib's dusty soul loops. Raekwon, Danny Brown, Earl Sweatshirt and Scarface all drop by.

About the album

Gary, Indiana's Freddie Gibbs is one of the most technically gifted rappers alive, and Madlib is one of hip hop's greatest crate-diggers, so when they teamed up as MadGibbs the results were magic. Madlib's beats are warm, cinematic '70s soul flips; Gibbs rides them with gritty, vivid, endlessly quotable verses.

"Thuggin'" and "Shame" (with BJ the Chicago Kid) are fan favourites, "Robes" with Domo Genesis and Earl Sweatshirt is a highlight, "Deeper" is gorgeous, and the title track is a posse-cut feast. A modern classic.
