Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention's 1970 album Burnt Weeny Sandwich, remastered on 180g vinyl in a gatefold jacket with a replica of the original poster.
Remastered from the 1970 analog safety master and pressed in the EU on 180g vinyl, with the original black and white poster reproduced. It's the ninth Zappa album and the seventh by the Mothers, mixing studio and live recordings.
Zappa named the album after a favourite snack of his, a burnt Hebrew National hot dog in a sandwich with mustard, which tells you plenty about his sense of humour. By the time it appeared he had already dissolved the original Mothers of Invention, so Burnt Weeny Sandwich gathers their studio and live recordings into one last, rather wonderful farewell.
Two doo-wop covers act as bookends: the Four Deuces' "WPLJ" opens, and Jackie & the Starliters' "Valarie" closes. In between come the two short "Igor's Boogie" pieces, a nod to Stravinsky, the sprawling "Holiday In Berlin, Full Blown" and "Aybe Sea." Ian Underwood's keyboards are all over it, and side two is given over to the long "Little House I Used To Live In," with Sugarcane Harris firing off a blazing violin solo.
The replica poster carries the band's famous notice that the Mothers of Invention sincerely regret to inform you of something. Having heard side two, we can't think what.
