Fionn: Scum [604 RECORDS]

Why you'll love it

Scum is the sound of Fionn plugging in, with "BLOW" hitting No. 1 on Billboard Canada's Modern Rock Airplay chart and earning the sisters a SOCAN songwriting award.

About the album

Alanna and Brianne Finn-Morris started out busking in White Rock, British Columbia, at 12, the daughters of an Irish show-band musician and a mother who runs a music school. They named the band after the first part of their shared surname, signed with Vancouver's 604 Records in 2018 and spent three albums making folk-pop with the odd Celtic twist.

Scum is where the gloves come off. Produced by Kevvy and M8xton, with the twins writing alongside them, it trades the acoustic glow for distorted guitars, pop punk bounce and plenty of attitude. "BLOW" is the centrepiece, an eruption of pent-up frustration and righteous anger, while "Snake behavior," "The Pill" and "Banshee" keep the volume up and "Sunday's Sleeping Beauty" brings things down gently at the end, a reminder that the folk-pop sisters are still in there somewhere.

They took the album out on their first headlining tour across the western U.S. and Canada, from Seattle to Las Vegas to Calgary. The sisters said back in 2017 they didn't mind how you pronounce Fionn, which is lucky, because we've heard it said at least four ways at the counter.
