About the album

Most people know Finn Wolfhard from television, but the Vancouver-born actor has been playing in bands since he was a kid, first Calpurnia and then The Aubreys. For his first album under his own name he set himself homework: write fifty songs before the end of 2022. Nine of them made the cut.

He produced it with Kai Slater, playing most of the guitars himself and even sitting in on drums for one track. The sound is lo-fi and loving, with Consequence hearing echoes of Elliott Smith, Ben Lee and Daniel Johnston plus a healthy dose of garage-punk noise. "Choose the Latter" is the jangly lead single, "Objection!" gave its name to the tour, "Eat" and "Crown" crunch, and "You" brings in strings from Annie Leeth for a hushed change of pace. Heba Kadry mastered it, keeping all the warm tape hiss right where it belongs.

Mojo called it all over the place in the best sense of the term, and the album took him on a 23-date tour across North America and Europe. As a fellow Canadian he gets our full support, and as a fellow music geek, our deepest sympathy for his record collection budget.
