About the album

Calling your record Album of the Year takes a certain nerve, and Faith No More had plenty to spare. With new guitarist Jon Hudson on board and the members spread across different cities and side projects, they grabbed short windows together in San Francisco, practising for a few weeks and then recording at the end of each stretch. The sessions ran at Brilliant Studios and Razor's Edge, with mixing at The Plant in Sausalito.

Mike Patton is in commanding form, crooning and snarling over Billy Gould's bass, Roddy Bottum's keyboards and Mike Bordin's drums. "Collision" crashes in at full speed, "Naked in Front of the Computer" is a short, sharp jolt, and "Helpless" and "Pristina" show the band's moodier, more cinematic side. Gould co-produced with Roli Mosimann.

The bonus disc lets Gould, Mosimann, Spinna and DJ Icey loose on the songs, with "Light Up and Let Go," "The Big Kahuna" and a live cover of "This Guy's in Love with You" rounding out the story. It remains the boldest title in our racks, and we have a lot of racks.
