About the album

Most soul revival bands spend their careers chasing 1968. Durand Jones & The Indications, who found each other through Indiana University's music school and a shared love of old soul 45s, decided to skip ahead a decade or so. Their third album trades sweet ballads for mirror balls, slow jams and late night radio.

They recorded it at Diamond Mine in New York City, with Jones, singer and drummer Aaron Frazer, guitarist Blake Rhein and keyboard player Steve Okonski writing and producing as a unit. Bassist Michael Montgomery, harpist Brandee Younger and Eli 'Paperboy' Reed are among the guests, with arrangements from Ginger Dolden and Peter Lanctot. "Reach Out" and "The Way That I Do" keep the bounce going, "Sea Of Love" glides, and the title track brings the lights right down.

The Chicano lowrider community championed the band early on, and Private Space suits a slow cruise just as well as their earlier records. We can't supply the car, but the soundtrack is sorted.
