Take On The Tyrants, a 33-song career-spanning best-of from Vancouver punk legends D.O.A., as a 2LP set with three tracks you won't find on the CD.
This 2LP set carries 33 tracks, three more than the CD. It draws on 18 studio albums from a 48-year career, from "The Enemy" and "Disco Sucks" to "Pipeline Fever."
Vancouver gave the world plenty of things in 1978, and D.O.A. were the loudest of them. Led by guitarist and singer Joey Keithley, they helped turn West Coast punk from a rumour into a scene, and nearly five decades later they are still at it, putting out records on their own terms and touring wherever there's a stage. Along the way they built a reputation as one of the hardest-working bands Canada has ever sent out on the road.
This collection works like a history lesson you can pogo to. "The Prisoner" and "World War 3" crackle with the speed of the early days, "Slumlord" and "General Strike" show how fast and tight the band became, and "Liar for Hire" and "Class War" keep the fire going into later decades. Jello Biafra joins the fun on "That's Progress," and "Donnybrook" and "We're Drivin to Hell an' Back" prove the tank is still full.
Few bands have kept the flag flying so long without ever lowering it. Four sides is a lot of punk rock, and not one song, we're pleased to report, stays longer than it's welcome.
