About the album

Danny Brown nearly retired. Then, in 2023, he started listening to 100 gecs, found his way into the digicore scene and discovered a whole new crowd of young producers making music he couldn't stop thinking about. Stardust is what happened next, the first album he made sober.

His A&R, DeadAir Records founder Jesse Taconelli, suggested he make it as an alter ego, so Brown invented Dusty Star, a fictional '90s pop star, with Frost Children's Angel Prost reading spoken fan mail to him between songs. Lead single "Starburst" fizzes and spins, "Copycats" pairs him with Underscores, whose album Wallsocket helped spark the whole idea, and Quadeca, Jane Remover and Femtanyl all leave their fingerprints. Brown even rebuilt his songwriting habits with Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way, and he took the songs on a North American tour at the end of 2025 with Underscores and Femtanyl opening the shows.

It sounds like no other Danny Brown record, and that's rather the point. Few rappers reinvent themselves as a '90s pop idol in their forties, and fewer still bring the fan mail.
